floatImgRBuy Once Give Twice was founded in 2007. Frustrated by the amount of ‘wasted’ money from items that charities could use to raise funds - auction lots that were bought at events but unredeemed; event tickets that couldn’t be used; items donated to charities for which there was no suitable sales outlet - they decided to build a trustworthy and enjoyable auction site which was rooted in philanthropy.

BuyOnceGiveTwice.co.uk provides charities with the chance to raise funds in an alternative way. Charities are able to recycle unclaimed purchases from charity auctions. This gives charities the chance to raise funds twice from one item. Bidders compete to win the lots on sale with 90% of proceeds going towards the benefitting charity.

The site operates on SensibleDevelopment.com’s auction platform, which is Brighton based.

Buzz: In April 2004, Sony asked Relentless Software to consider a music quiz game. A month later they created the first incarnation of what would go on to be known as Buzz™.

Relentless took a unique approach to the game, using a TV gameshow themed setting and proposition of the design of a new type of controller - the buzzer - to replace the standard joypad, which Sony went on to manufacture and package with the game.

The Buzz! series appeals to gamers and non-gamers alike and has brought a new audience into the world of videogames. There have now been nine Buzz! quiz games - including a version for primary schools based on the National Curriculum and backed by the

DfES - with sales of over six million in Europe alone.

Eurogamer is a Brighton-based website focused on video games news, reviews, previews and interviews. It has grown to become one of the most important European-based sites focused on video games.

As a business they continue to punch above their weight, taking on the big media companies like News Corp (IGN) and CBS Corp (Gamepot) and winning. The fact that key industry players such as Sony and Microsoft use Eurogamer as a first port of call to make announcements speaks volumes.

The site has the largest readership of any independent videogames website in the UK (over 1.8 million unique users in November 2007, including traffic from the French and German-language sites).

While it is only a tiny fraction of the size of the real Brighton and not intended to be an accurate copy, it aims to capture some of the feel of the real city. The many visitors from all over the world enjoy the secluded spots and the views, as well as the entertainment and the many amusements on offer there.
